Joanna Wilson
In December 2003, my mother Kathy created this page to post updates about my sister JoAnna, who was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in November of that year. In March 2005, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and used this website to update people on her health as well. The site became a way for her to stay in touch with our friends and family, as well as share her insights on life and her legendary sense of humor. In June 2006, my mom lost her fight when the cancer spread to her head. She was a wonderful person and I can’t express in words how much we miss her.
Joanna has received a stem cell transplant to treat her Ewing’s Sarcoma and is still recovering with no signs of a relapse. If you find yourself feeling helpless against this fight, please donate to the American Cancer Society, Memorial Sloan Kettering, or Make-A-Wish. Any of these organizations are oriented to hleping those who have been affected by this horrendous disease. Thank you very much for your support and all of your thoughts. -Matt
Journal
Saturday July 8th 2006 9:13 PM CDT A flash of incandescent beauty at the beginning, a sharing of the deepest and most fundamentally profound connection of honesty and love at the end, and in between, twenty seven years of memories together that have all now passed by me in the blink of an eye.
Kathy’s legacy is twofold. First and foremost is to never, ever take anything for granted. Every touch of friendship, every look of compassion and love, every thrill of excitement and exhilaration, each and every moment that goes into the enrichment of our human experience on this planet and in this life should be held close and appreciated to its very fullest. Because you never know when you will suddenly no longer have the opportunity to do so again.
Her second and very finest legacy is our family. Our children are no longer children. Matt is a man now. Jo Anna is a beautiful young woman. The picture we have selected is of Kathy positively glowing with a luminescence of one caught in a transcendent moment of fulfilling her destiny. Because that was her true calling. Her children. Her family. Her home.
The three of us want to thank each and every one of you for your thoughts, your contributions, your sharing, and your support over these last three years. This is my very first entry into this journal. It will also be our family’s final one.
Till I return at last to once again lie in my final, eternal and rightful place beside her:
Kathryn Allison Steinberg Wilson July 12th, 1957—June 30th, 2006
